Through the tour Discover Machu Picchu, we will visit the most tradicional Inca towns, the main archaeological sites and markets distributed along Cusco and the Sacred Valley until reaching Machu Picchu.
The crown jewel of Peruvian tourism is undoubtedly the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the 7 wonders of the modern world.
In this tour we will accompany you to know this citadel that remained hidden behind the Spanish conquest, which has temples full of energy and secrets like the sundial known as the Intihuatana or a hydraulic system worthy of admiration.
Before arriving to this architectural jewel we will meet the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we will know the culture and the traditional customs of the inhabitants of the area, discovering ruins and markets that conserve almost intact the customs of the Inca era.
We will land at the international airport Alejandro Velasco Astete where our staff will assist you in the transfer to the hotel. To acclimatize our body to the altitude of Cusco, they will offer us a hot coca mate.
After staying and relaxing in our hotel, we will start a tour of Cusco from Plaza de San Cristóbal.
We will visit the colorful and traditional San Pedro Market, which contains a festival of flavors, smells, fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, and handicrafts from Peru. Afterwards we will head towards the Temple of the Sun or Q’ oricancha, a sacred temple where worship of the Inti (Sun) the Sacred God of the Inca civilization was rendered.
From there we will walk to the Church of Santo Domingo, the bohemian and artisan quarter of San Blas, and down Hatun Rumiyoc Street, where you will find the Inca Roca Palace and the well-known Piedra de los 12 Angulos. We finish the tour in the Plaza de Armas where Cathedral of Cusco is located.
After breakfast, we will head to the ruins of the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán, an Inca fortress located at 3700 masl and whose architecture corresponds to the head of a puma, the sacred animal. We will continue to the sacred enclosure of Qenqo, which in Quechua means labyrinth. There is still an altar that served to invoke Kaypacha, the legendary serpent that gave rise to life.
The tour continues in the direction of Puca Pucará and Tambomachay, a sacred place considered one of the most important points of the Andean cosmovision. At this point the tour ends and we will return to the city to rest in our hotel.
We will head towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas detaining first of all in the Awanacancha complex, a traditional textile center also known for the docility of its flames, vicuñas and alpacas. Its inhabitants will show us their techniques of weaving and dyeing in a natural way using the natural elements of the area.
Afterwards we will arrive to Pisac one of the most important and visited archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. We travel through the Inca ruins that dominate the top of its mountain, and the popular craftmarket, the largest in the region. At the end of this visit we will head to the Inkariy Museum and stop for lunch.
We will continue our tour of the Sacred Valley to our accommodation. Along the way we will feel the energy that extends throughout the valley.
We will begin our tour visiting the complex of Moray, an Inca agricultural information center, built on circular terraces of different heights that create concentric circles in the land where the Incas studied the most favorable conditions for the cultivation of different agricultural species. With this system the Incas were able to create 20 different microclimates.
Afterwards, we will head to the Salineras de Maras, a small swimming pool built on the side of the mountain, which is covered with sea water that after evaporation leaves the salt behind. These salt mines, which date back to the Spanish colonial times, form a truly spectacular landscape.
After this point we will stop for lunch. We will then head towards the Ollantaytambo archaeological complex, one of the most beautiful places in the Sacred Valley. In this village we can observe how the ancient Incas worked the stone. We will visit the ancient fortress and temple, to appreciate a magnificent panoramic view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Finally, we will go to the train station of Ollantaytambo to take our train to Aguas Calientes, the last stop before Machu Picchu. Once at the Aguas Calientes station, our staff will assist us and drive you to your hotels in Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu.
The last day of the tour will be the most awaited moment, the hour of discover Machu Picchu. Early in the morning we will take the transport that crosses the ascent road to Machu Picchu in an ascent with spectacular views of the Urubamba river.
We will make a guided tour to know all the secrets of the sacred city of the Incas. Our guide will accompany us on a tour of about 2 hours through the most important places in the citadel, including the Temples of the Sun and Moon, the “Intihuatana” or sacred sundial and the Temple of the 3 Windows
After the guided tour you will be able to visit the ruins on your own for a few more hours to immerse yourself in the mysticism of the place and take the last photographs in this incomparable setting.
Finally, we will have lunch at a restaurant in the area and return to the train station Aguas Calientes to start our way back to Cusco.
Our staff will accompany you to the airport at the coordinated time to take your departure plane to Lima.
